Drawing these pattern animals mostly freehand, sometimes atop a loose sketch, sometimes using a more detailed sketch created using a compass and protractor, is something I find to be meditative. The combination of spontaneously choosing the designs with the repetition of the patterns creates an engaging experience intended to captivate the viewer as well. I used either a brush and ink or an ink pen for the line work, and have played around with coloring some of them in Adobe Photoshop.
