Examples of conceptual word play, some for clients and some just because inspiration struck! All of these images show letters created from subject matter which relates to the words they form.
Some Specifics
“Fun Guy” is a play on the word Fungi, as the words are made up of an array of different mushrooms. I made this using Rapidograph pens, just for fun!
“Bija” is for a client in NYC / Beacon, NY who wanted this image created for a business card and other promotional material. Illustrated in ink, and colored digitally in Adobe Photoshop.
“Verdigris” is a little drawing for Verdigris Tea & Chocolate in Hudson, NY that was celebrating a decade of business! The letters formed by negative space between the tea bags is the typeface that the business already uses on other promotional material.
“All You Need is Love” is a commissioned piece for a nice person who loves The Beatles! It includes imagery from over 25 Beatles songs in a single surreal scene. Can you name them all? Pen and Ink on Bristol Board. 8″ by 10″ prints available, email for inquiry.
“Cry Baby Cry” is also based on a song by The Beatles, of the same title. Drawn with a brush and ink, just for fun!
“Daisies & Dandelions” is for the box cover of one of the geometric folding books I illustrate as part of The Foliage Library. Drawn with a Rapidograph pen on Bristol Board.
“The Foliage Library” is a promotional piece made during the onset of Autum, also for The Foliage Library. Drawn with a Rapidograph pen, it’s final form is an fully colored animation where the leaves blow away.
